Academic Tutor – Illustration & Design role at University of Sunderland

Closing date: Monday 15th September (23.59 GMT). Interviews for this role are likely Thursday 18th September.

About the role

An excellent opportunity has arisen within The Faculty of Education, Society and Creative Industries for a qualified and experienced Academic Tutor in Illustration & Design. Working predominantly in Priestman Building based on City Campus you will undertake teaching of the Creativity Research and Innovation module.

The module encourages the students to identify key skills in their own practice that they would like to develop to a professional standard. As a professions-facing programme, we encourage our students to examine and develop skills that will be applicable to the creative industries. As this is a fast-changing world and we have a broad approach to illustration, student projects therefore could include a wide range of skills, from children\\\’s book illustration to animation, ceramics and 3D modelling. Tutors are not expected to know all areas in-depth and will have their own specialisms, but we expect them to signpost resources and areas of research that apply to all students regardless of their key area of research.

What you can bring

The successful candidate will have experience of working with digital design tools, including Adobe Suite and 3D software. You will have relevant industry experience in Illustration, Animation and/or Graphic Design and will have a clear and demonstratable ability to draw (from imagination and life drawing).

What we can offer you

Our University is not just a place of academic excellence, but also a community that embraces inclusivity and support. We value our staff and offer a rewarding package that goes beyond just salary. At the University of Sunderland, we prioritise not only your professional growth but also your happiness and well-being.

  • Enrolment into our pension scheme, ensuring your financial security for the future.
  • Access to our “My Lifestyle Benefits Platform”, where you can enjoy online discounts at hundreds of retailers every day. Plus, take advantage of exclusive schemes that allow you to purchase a new car, bike, or technology at a discounted rate.
