\\nAs part of a significant\\nIndustry-University partnership involving, in the first instance, the\\nUniversity of Strathclyde – Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine\\nEngineering (NAOME), Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and DNV Classification\\nSociety, the Maritime Safety Research Centre (MSRC) of Excellence has been set\\nup with the vision is to establish a world-class centre of excellence, a\\nreference and a shaping force of maritime safety.\\n

\\nMSRC seeks to employ a Research\\nAssociate or Research Assistant to participate in the on-going research\\nprojects funded by Innovate UK VRIVEN (Virtual Reality‐based\\nImmersive Education for Next-Generation Zero-Emission Vessels) and HySOME\\n(Hydrogen Safe Operations of Marine engines).\\nVRIVEN develops concepts for\\nnext-generation methanol-fuelled ships whereas HySOME investigates\\nhydrogen-fuelled ship operation. Both projects employ simulation tools to\\nderive insights for these ships operations at typical conditions and\\nemergencies. The simulation results will be used to develop innovative XR\\ntraining solutions for the next-generation zero-emissions vessels. As a\\nResearch Associate/Assistant, you will play a key role as part of a team,\\nworking under the general supervision of more senior colleagues.\\n
\\n
\\nTo be considered for the role,\\nyou should have a MEng degree (or equivalent) and a PhD in Maritime Engineering\\nand Technology or pertinent disciplines (PhD is not required for the Research\\nAssistant post). You should have adequate knowledge of modelling marine engines\\noperations with alternative fuels (hydrogen, methanol, ammonia), simulation\\ntools for marine engines and/or fires due to fuel leakages, data analysis methods\\nand their applications for ships. You should have sufficient understanding of\\nappropriate research methods within the pertinent systems engineering and\\nscience disciplines. You should have knowledge of programming languages skills\\neither through work experience or from previous research. You will conduct\\nliterature reviews, develop models of various types (thermodynamics,\\ndata-driven) for predicting the systems performance, emissions, reliability and\\nsafety parameters, collect, collate and analyse pertinent measured or\\ncalculated parameters, conduct surveys and undertake and record the outcomes of\\nphysical and numerical tests.\\n

\\nYou will work under general\\nsupervision, and you should have the ability to work within a team environment.\\nYou should have the ability to plan, manage, organise and prioritise your own\\nworkload and ensure that all activities are completed to deadlines. You will\\nwrite up the results of your own research and contribute to the production of\\nresearch reports and high-quality journal publications. You will input as a\\nteam member to administrative activities and assist, where required, with\\nrelevant teaching and knowledge exchange activities.

\\nYour experience should\\ndemonstrate that you are capable of working independently on technically\\nchallenging projects and delivering results. You should have proven capability\\nof writing high-quality journal publications and research reports, have\\nknowledge of appropriate research methods and have skills on developing\\nresearch proposals. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are very\\nessential, with propensity to listen, engage and persuade, and to present\\ncomplex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences. The appointee\\nwill join a multidisciplinary international team with industrial partners,\\nwhich entails that you will be prepared to travel for project meetings or in\\nundertaking specific research activity.
