The Institute for Energy and Environment (InstEE) based in the Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering (EEE) at the University of Strathclyde, https://www.strath.ac.uk/research/subjects/electronicelectricalengineering/instituteforenergyenvironment is seeking to recruit part-time Research Assistant to participate in multi-partner collaborative research projects focused on transforming offshore electrical power infrastructure and harnessing onshore and offshore wind to electrify the offshore oil and gas sector. This will contribute to the realisation of new solutions to achieving net zero operations, transforming island communities and economies, and creating the opportunity to produce green hydrogen for local use and export. This is an exciting and dynamic role, with direct engagement with a wide set of industrial, local authority and other stakeholders.

The candidate will join the Power Electronics, Drives and Energy Conversion (PEDEC) research group, within the Institute for Energy and Environment. The internationally recognised PEDEC research group currently comprises 4 academic staff, and more than 30 postdoctoral and PhD researchers, and operates from state-of-the-art laboratories in the University’s flagship, multi-disciplinary engineering and science building, the Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC). The work will further be conducted in close collaboration with Strathclyde’s Power Networks Demonstration Centre, an industrialisation centre driving the energy transition with industrial partners across a range of focus areas. The candidate will benefit from expert support from within the research group and across the Institute and wider University, with strong research facilities and research excellence.

To be considered for the role, you will be educated to a minimum of PhD level in a relevant subject (e.g. Power Electronics or similar area); or have equivalent relevant experience in addition to a relevant Degree. You will have demonstrable capability in power electronics applications and simulation of power systems. You will have a proven ability to conduct research activities, and to disseminate results. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to listen, engage and persuade and to present complex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences. You will have the ability to work as part of a team, integrating with existing research team members and collaborating effectively with both academic and industrial partners. Scientific publication and dissemination of results will be required, through both academic journals and international conferences.
