Accommodation Services are recruiting for a part-time Night Porter to assist in the running of student accommodation based in the Strathclyde Student Village. The successful candidate will provide a reception service to students and visitors as well as overseeing the night security and good order in the halls of residence.

You should have experience in a similar role, preferably working in a customer focused environment. Good communication, interpersonal skills and a flexible attitude are essential. It is also a requirement of this post that you can work alone and make appropriate decisions.

Accommodation Services provides over 1300 bed spaces, across 8 Halls of Residence in the heart of the University Campus in Glasgow. Our customers are diverse and include those attending a course in preparation for university study; those joining Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses from Scotland, other parts of the UK and many other parts of the world. For some, this is the first time away from home and others may have particular requirements and needs. We pride ourselves on the support we give our students in residence to ensure they have a successful time at university.

Our accommodation is mostly let to students during term-time and over the summer months it is let commercially to visitors and groups. The department is self-financing, with the net surplus being reinvested into a programme of refurbishment and modernisation. There is a team of around 70 staff including cleaning, housing, administration, maintenance and management.

Accommodation Services are based in the Lord Todd Building in the center of the Student Village. The reception is staffed 24/7 to maintain an essential level of front-line support for students and guests and to allow for any building issues or incidents to be quickly attended to.

Whilst the majority of the University closes at night, there can often be a hive of activity in the Student Village as students enjoy the independence that comes with living away from home. Staff working nights are essential to the services provided by the department. Night porters support the health, safety and wellbeing of students and guests by monitoring activities in the Student Village and attending to any incidents or issues that may arise.

Interviews are scheduled to take place on 16 and 17 April 2025.

For informal enquiries, please contact Jacob Kinnear, Residence Life Manager.
