The Faculty of Engineering is seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced work-based Learning Adviser (Grade 7) with an engineering background to join the GA EDM work-based learning team that collectively support the delivery and assessment of the integrated work-based learning elements of the degree programme.

Engagement with work-based learners and employer organisations will be conducted through a blended approach involving some occasional travel to employer sites, the frequent use of technology platforms and participation in Employer Forum events. You will be involved in all aspects of the work-based learning activities including:

  • Provision of initial learner training on the use of the e-portfolio (Pebble Pad)
  • Development of individual learning plans
  • Monitoring online learner engagement
  • Supporting work-based learners
  • Assessing work-based learning activities

You must be able to demonstrate highly developed communication skills and good team working skills to work with the University of Strathclyde GA EDM programme team and communicate effectively with learners, employers and internal verifiers. You must possess IT skills appropriate for supporting learners at a distance.

To be considered for the role you must hold the SVQ Assessor Qualification (L&D9DI) or equivalent and have the required discipline background in either Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering to allow for the assessing of various learners up to SCQF level 10 within Scotland. You will also have a minimum of 2 years of experience of observing and assessing candidates in their workplace including:

  • Management of a caseload of graduate apprentices through discussion of work-based learning assignments, examining their portfolios of evidence and providing objective feedback on their reflective accounts and level of engineering competence.
  • Supervision and assessment of the Graduate Apprentices' industry-based projects feedback.
  • Maintaining records of candidates' progress and agreeing objectives for candidates' professional development.
  • Liaising with industry supervisors and academic centres to implement tailored learner support strategies.

Due to the nature of the role, candidates must be willing and able to work flexibly both in terms of time (Monday to Friday, typically office hours) and location, including the ability to visit learners off-campus. As the role may involve some travel you must have a current driving licence with access to a vehicle.

Applicants who have English as a second language are required to submit with their application an IELTS English language proficiency test result with a score of 6.5 or greater in each element of the Academic test.

Formal interviews for this post will be held on Thursday, 26 February 2026.
