Job Description
The Faculty of Science seeks to appoint a Research Software Engineer in order to support staff and students in raising skills in scientific programming and software project management, curate and maintain large data assets, and support online teaching and class testing applications. Based within the Faculty of Science, the postholder will work closely with researchers across the Faculty, with the opportunity to be involved in research covering the breadth of the Sciences where coding expertise is required, In addition, the post will assist the Head of IT in maintaining the Faculty’s portfolio of in-house software.

This post will be a key member of the senior Faculty IT team, and act as IT liaison for the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences (SIPBS), ensuring that the needs of the department are met by the Science IT team, and that relevant updates on the IT team’s activities are relayed to the department.

The main duties of the postholder are to support research projects by professionalising researcher-developed software code so as to enable its release to the wider community, and raise programming and software project management skills among staff and students. In addition, the post will focus on curation and maintenance of in-house applications and large data assets held by the Faculty, including learning support applications, and the facilitation of access to these by projects and students in the Faculty of Science.
