The Strathclyde Institute of Education hosts 12.5% of the total student population of the University of Strathclyde, and 38% of students in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. There are currently 139 members of academic staff and 12 members of administrative staff. We currently offer an extensive portfolio of 48 different programmes at UG, PGT and PGR levels, with 602 modules in total. We are, therefore, a large and complex department. The Institute is the largest provider of teacher education in Scotland, and one of the largest in Europe. We are responsible for around 47% of over 4,000 new teachers annually.

The key remit of this role is to work in partnership with the Head of Institute and Institute Manager to support decision making in areas such as staff capacity planning, finance management, operational processes and procedures, resource and asset management, and strategic planning and performance. The post holder will be a member of the Institute’s Management Team and will support the delivery of strategic ambitions such as the People Strategy.

The Assistant Institute Manager operationally leads, manages and develops the professional services team and is responsible for the operations of the Department. The role will be responsible for the operational delivery of teaching, research, and knowledge exchange provision. The Assistant Institute Manager will also have responsibility for monitoring a wide range of complex budgets, interpreting, and presenting information to the key stakeholders in the Department.
