We’re looking for a motivated and curious Finance Apprentice to join our Finance Operations Team which is responsible for the day-to-day processing and control of the University’s financial transactions, ensuring that money coming in and going out of the business is accurate, authorised, and recorded on time. This includes managing accounts payable and receivable, processing invoices and payments, handling expenses and purchasing cards, completing bank reconciliations, maintaining financial records, and supporting month-end close activities, all while following internal controls, policies, and audit requirements. As a Finance Apprentice you will gain hands-on experience through a structured rotation across different finance tasks, while being supported as you study towards your Accounting Technician qualification.
Description of Duties
- Processing supplier and customer invoices and payments (Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable) in line with University policies and procedures
- Posting and checking bank transactions and supporting bank reconciliations
- Assisting with reconciliations and financial reporting
- Maintaining accurate financial records and completing data entry on finance systems
- Supporting month end and year end finance processes
- Responding to internal and external finance queries in a professional manner
- Carrying out general administrative duties within the finance team
Essential Criteria
Qualifications
- 2 Highers including Maths or Accounting/Business
- National 5’s (or equivalent) in Maths and English
Knowledge & Experience
- Basic understanding of finance, accounting, or office procedures (can be gained through school/college)
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Interest in learning about Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Banking and general finance processes
- Willingness to work towards an Accounting Technician qualification
- Some experience of administration tasks or office work is helpful but not essential

- The University will pay a supplement per annum pro rata with effect from 01 November 2025, to align with the Real Living Wage (RLW) which equates to £25,178 p.a.
- This RLW supplement will be reviewed annually to take account of future increases and RLW rates
- There is an expectation that work will be undertaken in the UK
- This role is not eligible for sponsorship
