The University of Staffordshire is seeking an experienced and motivated Cleaning Services Manager to lead and manage the University’s cleaning operations. This role is key to ensuring high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and compliance across our internal and external environments, supporting a safe, welcoming, and professional campus for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the University’s cleaning team using the Enterprise Service Management system (Solve), ensuring high performance and adherence to University standards and specifications.
  • Develop, implement, and manage annual, quarterly, and monthly deep cleaning programmes, taking account of building usage patterns to maintain premium standards of cleanliness.
  • Produce cleaning specifications, contracts, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for both internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Lead and support the supervisory team in managing staff performance, including proactive absence management and performance development reviews.
  • Ensure all staff are appropriately trained, competent, and up to date with the latest cleaning processes and techniques.
  • Ensure supervisors maintain robust risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
  • Manage cleaning materials, consumables, and stock, maintaining an accurate asset register of equipment along with a planned replacement schedule.
  • Work in full compliance with health and safety legislation, including statutory obligations and best practice requirements, with particular attention to the safe handling and storage of chemicals.
  • Support the wider Facilities team, when required, across internal and external University areas, in line with required standards and specifications.

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent understanding of health and safety compliance and best practice.
  • Organised, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.

Qualifications

  • Relevant supervisory or management qualification, or equivalent substantial experience.
  • Relevant Health and Safety qualification.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Extensive, proven experience leading the successful delivery of a cleaning service.
  • Experience managing performance at both individual and operational levels, including developing, monitoring, and reporting on service KPIs using relevant performance management tools.
  • Evidence of developing and implementing effective strategies that drive service improvement, supported by measurable performance criteria.
  • Strong working knowledge of the legal compliance framework for cleaning services, particularly Health & Safety and environmental legislation.
  • Experience ensuring risk assessments are completed and safe systems of work are in place.
  • A good level of digital skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
