About The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced academic to join our Department of Engineering and support the delivery of a range of Mechanical and/or Automotive programmes.
You will contribute to the delivery, supervision, and development of undergraduate and postgraduate Mechanical and/or Automotive programmes on campus, through our apprenticeship delivery, and through our distance learning Armed Forces delivery. Working closely with colleagues, you will help ensure an outstanding student experience and maintain the University’s high academic standards.
You must hold a PhD in Engineering or a closely related discipline and demonstrate substantial expertise in Mechanical and/or Automotive Engineering, or equivalent. Membership of a relevant professional body is desirable. You will have experience of teaching in higher education and be able to contribute to curriculum development, student support, and academic leadership.
You will also contribute to the School’s research activities and the Staffordshire Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Engineering, with a strong publication profile, the potential to secure external funding, develop research collaborations, and support the University’s sustainability agenda.
Main Responsibilities
- Teaching, Learning, and Assessment: Design, lead, deliver, and assess high-quality teaching across Mechanical and/or Automotive Engineering and related disciplines, using appropriate face-to-face, blended, and digital approaches to achieve defined learning outcomes.
- Curriculum and Programme Development: Lead and contribute to the development, review, and enhancement of modules, courses, programmes, assessment strategies, and new provision, ensuring curricula remain current, inclusive, and aligned with academic, professional, and industry requirements.
- Course and Academic Leadership: Undertake course leadership and other academic or operational management responsibilities, including setting strategic direction, supporting day-to-day delivery, workload planning and contributing to School and University strategic initiatives.
- Quality Assurance and Accreditation: Play a leading role in academic quality processes, including course validation and review, monitoring and enhancement, and professional accreditation, liaising with relevant professional and accreditation bodies as required.
- Student Experience and Support: Support student achievement, progression and retention through effective academic, administrative and pastoral support, while contributing to an inclusive and high-quality student learning experience.
- Scholarship, Research and Enterprise: Maintain and develop subject expertise through continuing professional development, scholarship and, where appropriate, research, consultancy, knowledge exchange and enterprise activities that enhance the academic and external profile of the discipline and School.
- External Engagement, Partnerships and Recruitment: Develop and maintain effective relationships with industry, professional bodies and external partners, while contributing to student recruitment, Open Days, Clearing, partnership development and the external reputation of Mechanical and/or Automotive Engineering.
- Leadership, Collegiality and Professional Responsibility: Contribute actively to School and University activities, mentor and support colleagues, participate in team development and strategic projects, and uphold responsibilities relating to health and safety, professional development, equality and inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
