The Regius Professor of Mathematics is due to be appointed by His Majesty the King at the University of St Andrews. This prestigious chair was established in 1668, and the first holder was James Gregory.
The Regius Professor of Mathematics will have an outstanding track record of research and academic achievement in any of the key areas of mathematical sciences. The ability to lead the strategic development of mathematical sciences in St Andrews, and to represent the School of Mathematics and Statistics prominently within the UK and internationally are essential. We expect the appointment to expand our existing research portfolio in a significant way, with the possibility of forming a new research group, but synergies with the current expertise would be welcome.
