IT Services is responsible for providing, developing, and maintaining the University’s central IT infrastructure and the delivery of a wide range of technology-based services to both staff and students. We are appointing a Network & Infrastructure Technician to support a team of specialists in developing and maintaining the University data network and associated infrastructure including data centre provision.
Key responsibilities
- Network documentation
- Patching of data circuits
- Updating switch and router firmware
- Low level equipment replacement
- Liaising with maintenance contractors
- Maintaining a safe working environment in server, wireless deployment and maintenance rooms
Requirements
- With a minimum of 6 standard grades or equivalent at Level 3 or above, to include English, Maths and a Science subject or relevant Network Certification and experience of working in a Networking-related role
- Strong problem solving skills, good technical grounding and ability to quickly absorb and develop technical understanding of operating systems and applications
- The capacity to learn procedures and practices
- The ability to work openly and cooperatively with others and to understand and respond to needs of end users
- Knowledge and understanding of general computer applications and general network concepts and technologies
- Experience of working in a customer facing service would be an advantage
