The University of St Andrews is seeking new members of Court to play an integral role in supporting the success of the University. St Andrews is Scotland’s oldest university and is Scottish University of the Year. It is second in the UK in both The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026 and The Guardian University Guide 2026. St Andrews is a diverse community of 10,000 students and 2,500 staff, a melting pot of 140 nationalities which accounts for over half the population of the town.

St Andrews’ unique selling point is its rich history, the excellence of its staff, and its cutting-edge teaching and research. It has consistently inhabited the very topmost reaches of the National Student Survey. Staff and students choose St Andrews for its unswerving loyalty to a culture that prizes and protects the highest standards of research and teaching. Beyond the books, quality of life feeds on sea and sky, cobbled streets, culture, and a collision of world views which make this compressed community one of the most intellectually stimulating in Europe. St Andrews is all about its people, their ideas, and their experience.

The University Court is the governing body of the University and is responsible for providing oversight for senior management in delivery of the strategy, safeguarding the success of the University, and ensuring it continues to prosper. Membership of Court provides an opportunity to exercise skills and expertise for the collective good of all in our community and future generations of scholars and staff.

In a rapidly changing external environment and with an increasing emphasis on regulation and accountability, Court business is growing in complexity.
