The School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Southampton is seeking a Senior Teaching Laboratory Technician to support the delivery of a high‑quality student experience in undergraduate teaching laboratories.
Responsibilities:
- Provide effective technical support in physics & astronomy undergraduate teaching laboratories through design, set‑up, maintenance, testing and demonstration of laboratory experiments.
- Manage the running of the laboratories and maintain and update experiments as required.
- Demonstrate experiments to students and staff.
- Work independently or with minimum supervision, seeking help when needed.
- Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with colleagues.
- Guide students to reach their potential, ensuring experiments run smoothly during teaching terms and improving them during term breaks.
- Promote inclusivity and diversity in all interactions.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge and practical skill in physics lab work; a sound understanding of physics and experimental methods is advantageous.
