The University of Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU) is a Cancer Research UK core‑funded, UKCRC registered trials unit. The unit supports researchers across the UK and internationally to help design, conduct, analyse and disseminate clinical trials and observational studies that target important clinical and social health care questions.
The unit is seeking to employ a senior medical statistician with experience of working on clinical trials in a regulated environment. The post covers maternity leave and will have responsibilities for delivering the urological cancer portfolio, which includes two large phase 3 trials in bladder and prostate cancer. You will work with junior statisticians and statistical programmers to oversee delivery of trial reports, plan work and communicate with the Head of Group in Statistics to support management of workload across the team. You will lead communication with chief investigators and the wider trial team on methodological issues, and broadly support the SCTU to deliver the assigned trials.
The role requires knowledge of the application of statistical methods to cancer trials, as well as activities relating to obtaining funding and dissemination of study results. Familiarity with statistical software such as Stata, SAS and/or R is essential. An applicant should demonstrate an ability to work to timelines across multiple complex projects and have experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
Working at the University of Southampton gives you access to a wide range of benefits in addition to competitive rates of pay. Core benefits include pension scheme membership, a generous annual leave allowance (supplemented by university closure days and public holidays) and excellent family leave arrangements (including maternity, paternity, adoption and parental leave).

Committed to supporting our teaching and research community we are open to flexible working. With an understanding that there is a need to be on site in order to completely fulfil the role, we are open to a hybrid approach. We give full consideration to applicants that wish to work flexibly including part‑time and those who have taken a career break.
