The School of Geography and Environmental Science is ranked sixth in the UK by subject (Guardian Subject League Table, 2024) and third for overall research quality (Grade Point Average, REF2021), with 75% of our impact case studies judged as world leading. We have world leading expertise in Geospatial research, knowledge exchange and enterprise and we are a founding member of Southampton Geospatial, a multi-disciplinary research centre at the university that brings together diverse areas of geospatial knowledge and analytics to address key environmental and societal issues.
We're seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Associate Professor in Geospatial Data Science to strengthen our world leading Geospatial research and teaching. You'll conduct innovative and impactful research by developing and applying advanced computational methods to analyse and interpret geospatial data through application(s) focused on one or more of the following areas: sustainability, environmental change, climate change, health. You'll be part of Southampton Geospatial, with potential to join the leadership team and shape its future strategy.
You're expected to contribute to geospatial teaching in one or more undergraduate or post-graduate teaching programmes within the school with the opportunity to develop new modules in geospatial data science at master’s level.
You should have strong expertise in geospatial data science with a solid background in advanced methods such as machine learning, AI or other quantitative methods and significant expertise in programming. You should have the ability to collaborate across disciplines with applied interest in one or more of the following areas, including but not limited to: understanding cause and impact of global environmental change, impact of climate change on human health, modelling space time changes in environment and population.
You should also have experience in teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with a focus on geospatial data science or related courses.
