Overview

Would you like to work as an examinations invigilator for the University of Southampton during the 2025/26 academic year? Exams are run in January, May/June and August.

We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic, and motivated people who want a flexible job that can fit around other commitments.

Responsibilities

  • Invigilators must be reliable, professional and in general good health.
  • They need to have a clear voice and must be able to relay procedures and regulations calmly to students, in a firm but kindly way.
  • We see the invigilator\'s role as 50-50 balancing the requirements of academic integrity and supporting student welfare.
  • Shifts could be all day 8.00 am to 6.00 pm with a lunch break, or mornings/afternoons as detailed below.

Qualifications and training

  • Full training will be given prior to work being undertaken.
  • You must be fully committed to the role and complete all the online training modules before you can invigilate.
  • You will be supported in your role with your exams induction, team leader guidance and collegiate support.
  • Active students on Taught Programmes are not eligible to apply.

Availability and selection

Successful applicants will be asked to complete an availability form so that shifts can be allocated.

Forthcoming Exams 2025/26

  • Semester One assessment: Monday 12 January - Friday 23 January 2026 (but possibly including Saturday 17 and 24 January)
  • Semester Two assessment: Monday 18 May - Friday 5 June 2026 (excluding Bank Holiday Monday 25 May but possibly including Saturday 23 and 30 May)
  • Supplementary assessments: Monday 17 August - Friday 28 August 2026 (excluding Bank Holiday Monday 24 August but possibly including Saturday 22 August)

Shifts

  • All day 8.00 am to 6.00 pm with a lunch break or
  • AM 8.00 am to 12.30 pm/1.30 pm or PM 1.00 pm to 5.30 pm/6.30 pm
