We are seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher of high calibre to join our research program working in the area of the environmental impacts of e-textiles. The position is funded by the EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) project: SUSTAIN - Sustainable heterogenoUs e-textileS for impercepTible humAn INterfaces. SUSTAIN will tackle fundamental challenges across electronic textile-based sensing, wireless, electrochemical and design technologies with a focus on sustainable developments towards practical user-centric e-textile systems.

In this role, you will join an interdisciplinary University of Southampton research team from across the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences and Winchester School of Art and work with collaborators at the University of Glasgow. Details of the project can be found at www.SUSTAIN-PG.org.

A strong background in environmental science or engineering, eco-design, life cycle assessment and costing, and an interest in e-wastes is highly desirable, along with an aptitude for problem solving and data analysis that relate to this exciting research program.

Responsibilities and requirements

To be successful with your application, you will need to demonstrate:

  • An awarded PhD in environmental Science/Engineering or equivalent qualifications and experience.
  • Excellent experimental research skills in the area of environmental assessment, including life-cycle assessment, with a strong publication track record in high-quality international journals.
  • A willingness and ability to help with the supervision of PhD students.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, and a proven ability to work well within teams.

The appointment is initially for a 1-year fixed period, with a possibility of extension for a further 2-4 years.
