Overview

Based within Learning Services at the University of South Wales, the Learner Development Service (LDS) provides academic study skills support for USW students. The team of Specialist Study Skills Tutors deliver one-to-one tutorial support to students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs) and other disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individual programmes of one-to-one study skills tutorials to students with a variety of learning needs.
  • Assess progress and review the effectiveness of such support.

Location and Requirements

Based at three campuses at Cardiff, Pontypridd, and Newport, this role provides the opportunity to deliver sessions in line with relevant legislation and best practice. Therefore, candidates must fulfil the DSA-QAF mandatory professional body requirements for supporting students with SpLDs. It is also advantageous to meet the training requirements for working with students with Autism Spectrum Conditions.

Role Expectations

The Specialist Study Skills Tutor is expected to be professional, resilient, and collegial, and to work flexibly and efficiently to build trusting relationships with the students who receive support. Maintaining confidentiality and excellent record keeping are also key skills integral to the effectiveness of this role.

Contract
