The University of South Wales is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a full‑time position in the field of Civil Engineering. The Research Fellow will focus on the project awarded by Switch to Net Zero Buildings PBIAA, funded by the UKRI EPSRC, on developing sustainable building mortar, brick, block and concrete using materials recovered from post‑consumer disposable nappy waste. This role offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with our industrial partner, NappiCycle Ltd, to ensure that research outcomes influence future developments and widespread use.

The successful candidate will engage in developing novel research methods, extend their research portfolio and contribute to the evolution of technologies associated with cement and concrete.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare high‑quality research outputs and grant proposals, including publications in leading journals and other relevant platforms.
  • Conduct research on sustainable building materials using recycled nappy waste.
  • Collaborate with academic and industrial partners to translate research outcomes into practice.
  • Build national and international research networks and disseminate findings.
Qualifications
  • PhD (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Advanced knowledge in cement and concrete is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build networks nationally and internationally.

This is a full‑time, fixed‑term position initially for one year, based at the Pontypridd Campus of the University of South Wales.
