This is an exceptional time to be joining the University of Southampton to help support quality delivery of Student Record System transformation. The role sits within the University’s IT department, iSolutions. The agile BRITE project team is working on modernisation of a critical product for the University community.

About the Role

This is a lead role in support of quality delivery of the Student Record System. Providing technical test strategies and services within an agile delivery lifecycle, the role offers the test professional the opportunity to drive validation of product quality assurance at all stages of development and operation. The BRITE project team have the mandate to deliver transformational solutions & work with positive, focused attitudes.

What you’ll do

  • Take responsibility for defining a strategy for all aspects of testing across the BRITE project, including technical system, integration, and user acceptance testing.
  • Ensure test capabilities cover functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Build a test roadmap to define current and future test capability to support delivery of quality products and an excellent user experience.
  • Describe and acquire environments required for test purposes.
  • Ensure appropriate data storage within environments to satisfy information protection demands.
  • Ensure testing standards are met throughout development, configuration, and release stages.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders within iSolutions and across the wider university to prioritise and schedule testing capabilities and requirements.
  • Work with colleagues and test professionals to identify areas of improvement through new testing technologies, toolsets, and methodologies.
  • Develop functional test automation capabilities and define test automation strategy.
  • Develop relationships with external partners to improve response to non-functional test demand.
  • Build and maintain test progress reporting against key performance indicators.

What you’ll bring

  • The ability to confidently design and embed test strategies and standards.
  • Experience delivering structured security frameworks for information and data within test and pre-production environments.
  • An ability to articulate test and quality assurance requirements, often at a technical level, directly to key stakeholders.
  • The ability to prioritise workload, work well under pressure and manage stakeholder and institutional expectations.
  • Hands-on experience planning and progressing test activities within professional guidelines and/or organisational policy.
  • Experience applying fundamental functional and non-functional test strategies to meet system, system integration, and user acceptance testing demands.
  • Experience of DevOps practices and culture.
  • Achieved a minimum of ISTQB/ISEB Foundation Level Certification.
  • Experience designing and implementing test regimes while working in a strategic ‘cloud first’ environment, particularly in the area of Student Records systems and associated capabilities.
