About the role: Innovation is the lifeblood of the University of Southampton. Powered by world-class research, we’re growing a portfolio of spin‑out companies, enabling the development of products and services that benefit people, businesses and the wider economy. Join us as a Technology Transfer Manager and you’ll play a pivotal part.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Work on a portfolio of commercialisation projects to further increase the University’s impact, including Intellectual Property (IP) income generated.
  • Help manage relationships with key academic staff to understand their research expertise and identify new innovation and commercialisation opportunities.
  • Use your strong organisational and inter‑personal skills to succeed in large, collaborative teams.

What you’ll bring:

  • Previous commercial experience is essential for this role, along with the ability to evaluate the commercial potential of scientific concepts and a sound knowledge of intellectual property issues in a research environment.
  • Enhancing the University’s commercialisation portfolio through additional licensing activity or helping drive the creation of new University spin‑out companies is an expectation of this role.
  • We will help you build further networks with industry partners and investors, along with other key external regional stakeholders.

Qualifications and experience:

If you have a relevant postgraduate degree (which could include an MBA and/or PhD) or a similar professional qualification and industry experience and have a keen interest in University commercialisation activity, we’d love to hear from you.
