We are seeking a Sustainability Programme Manager to manage and deliver a range of sustainability activity across the organisation. This will be a critical role in supporting the NIHR to meet our sustainability objectives.
Who are we? The NIHR funds, enables and delivers world‑leading health and social care research that improves people's health and wellbeing and promotes economic growth. We are also a major funder of applied health research in low and middle‑income countries.
As Sustainability Programme Manager, you will be responsible for managing and delivering a diverse portfolio of sustainability activity across NIHR. Working closely with colleagues and stakeholders, you will help ensure our sustainability ambitions are embedded into strategies, systems and ways of working.
Key responsibilities
- Project managing a portfolio of related initiatives, balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
- Analysing complex issues and data to identify risks, opportunities and practical solutions.
- Preparing briefings, reports and recommendations to support informed decision‑making.
- Building strong, collaborative relationships across NIHR and with external stakeholders, and representing your work at meetings when required.
- Contributing to learning and development activity to build sustainability capability across the organisation.

We are looking for someone who is motivated by sustainability and brings passion and knowledge to the organisation. You will be comfortable working across different priorities and be able to demonstrate a commitment to sustainability. The successful candidate will demonstrate:
