Overview: SCHARR‑TAG at the University of Sheffield has an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for health economic modelling and cost‑effectiveness analyses educated to at least degree level. We are seeking highly numerate candidates with experience of health technology assessment to join our internationally‑recognised team. The successful applicant will work within the Health Economics and Decision Science (HEDS) Section as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting and undertaking decision modelling in applied policy and methods research, focussing on the cost‑effectiveness of healthcare interventions.
Main Duties And Responsibilities:
- Perform health economic analyses for the evaluation of health technologies using decision modelling methods.
- Convey the results of research clearly, in written and oral formats, to both expert and non‑expert audiences.
- Make substantial contributions to the design, development and writing of research proposals for applied economic evaluations.
- Contribute research expertise, as required, to other ScHARR research and consultancy projects.
- Work in multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Liaise closely with a range of staff in the academic, NHS and private sectors, including clinicians, research staff and technicians.
You will make a full and active contribution to the principles of the ‘Sheffield Academic’. These include the achievement of excellence in applied teaching and research, and scholarly pursuits to make a genuine difference in the subject area and to the University’s achievements as a whole. Person Specification:
- Degree in a numerate subject (Operational Research, Economics, Mathematics/Statistics).
- Postgraduate qualification (or equivalent experience) in a numerate subject (Operational Research, Economics, Mathematics/Statistics).
- Experience of decision‑analytic modelling (e.g., discrete event simulation, state transition modelling).
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
- Working knowledge of programming (e.g., R, VBA, WinBUGS).
- Experience of designing and undertaking health‑related research.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral, written and presentation modes in academic and healthcare environments.
- Evidence of experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
- Respect for confidentiality.

- Flexibility in approaching tasks and problem‑solving ability.
Salary: In the range £38,784 to £47,389 per annum pro‑rata.
Work Arrangement: Full Time or Part‑time (minimum commitment 70% full‑time equivalent, working pattern to be agreed). Hybrid and flexible options will be considered.
Duration: Currently available – 31st March 2027. The end date is due to the completion of the current SCHARR‑TAG contract.
