The School of Science, Engineering and Environment (SSEE) is seeking a Senior Technician to join our dedicated technical team. As a signatory of the national Technician Commitment, the University of Salford is dedicated to the visibility, recognition, and career development of our technical staff. Key Responsibilities
- Leading Laboratory Operations: Preparing labs, ordering consumables, and maintaining specialist equipment to ensure a seamless environment for all users.
- Demonstration & Support: Teaching students and staff how to use specialist equipment and techniques through formal practicals and informal drop‑in sessions.
- Safety Leadership: Directing health and safety assessments and ensuring strict compliance within specialist spaces.
- Innovation: Providing specialist advice to develop new laboratory processes and creating learning content to support student success.
- Equipment Care: Troubleshooting and performing regular maintenance on complex equipment to maximize durability and minimize downtime.

We are looking for candidates who have experience maintaining laboratories, supporting academic research, and can work as a team player. We are looking for a proactive individual who combines technical precision with excellent communication skills. You will join a large, multi‑disciplinary school comprising 400 staff and 4,500 students across diverse subjects ranging from Zoology to Engineering. We offer a supportive environment where your contribution is fully recognised as essential to our high‑quality research and teaching. This is a fixed‑term post until September.
