Responsibilities:
- Under general direction from Nursing Leadership, assist providers during exams.
- Perform a variety of clinical tasks in support of patient care in out‑patient clinics, including technical, procedural, and information systems tasks that affect patient comfort, care and safety.
Essential Functions:
- Apply clinical knowledge while assisting provider during exam; anticipate provider needs and adapt to patient complexity.
- Attach patient to diagnostic and medical equipment, including dynamapp, pulse oximeter, EKG, cardiac monitor and pneumatic tourniquet.
- Provide information, comfort and care to patient during the exam by explaining next steps and ensuring supplies and equipment are ready for safe operation; give patient pre‑printed discharge instructions.
- Ensure that the correct number and type of supplies are available in each exam room at all times and are aligned with provider preference.
- Maintain efficient room utilization to minimize patient wait time.
- Escort patients from the waiting area to exam areas, obtain vital signs, perform diagnostic testing and specimen collection per provider order, and accurately label, log and process specimens according to protocol.
- Enter patient data, conditions, and care into the electronic medical record system; perform administrative duties such as scheduling and registration.
- Maintain adequacy of clinical equipment and medical supplies, reorder, restock, clean, inventory, monitor expiration dates, requisition needed supplies, reconcile orders, and track utilization for cost trending.
- Implement standard infection prevention measures, monitor for breaches, and initiate corrections as necessary.
- With RN oversight, precept new employees to the area, providing a detailed overview of requirements and ensuring competence in all areas of practice.
- Assist providers with patient processes as a surgical procedure assistant, preparing rooms and instrumentation, providing basic instruction to patients, anticipating provider needs, preparing specimens, dressing wounds, and reviewing discharge instructions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent and 1 year experience in a customer‑focused/service setting required.
- Associate's degree preferred. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and computer experience preferred.
