Overview

Routing and Scheduling Optimisation (RSO) KTP Associate. This project is a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between ABL 1Touch group and the University of Portsmouth, awarded by Innovate UK. The role is part of a two KTP Associate project; the RSO KTP Associate will work closely with the ML/AI KTP Associate. The project supports the strategic growth plans and establishes new technical benchmarks for the automotive repair sector.

The Role

We are looking to recruit a second KTP Associate to join this project. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in OR/AI and software development, be enthusiastic about working on innovative technology within a supportive commercial environment, and develop leadership and project management skills. This appointment is a fixed-term contract (30 months). Hybrid working is possible for this position between ABL sites in Portsmouth or Southampton, with a requirement to attend the Reigate office or other locations to spend time with relevant operational teams. You will also be able to work from home where co-location with an ABL team member is limited.

The post will provide the individual with an opportunity to contribute to the company’s innovation policy and participate in the wider training and development opportunities (including a development budget of £2,000 per annum).

Project and Organisation

This role is within ABL 1Touch, a UK-based automotive accident repair company known for its tech-enabled, sustainable \”repair over replace\” approach. The company has 24 sites (as of 2023), is backed by private equity, and serves major insurers. The project is hosted at ABL 1Touch Group in Southampton.

Responsibilities and Work Scope

The role will involve developing an AI-powered system that combines Machine Learning and Operational Research for automated vehicle damage assessment and repair scheduling optimisation to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery.

Location and Working Arrangements

You will be joining a friendly team based at ABL 1Touch Group in Southampton. The role supports hybrid working between Portsmouth and Southampton sites, with occasional attendance at the Reigate office or other locations to engage with operational teams. Some remote work is possible when co-location is not required.
