The School of Psychology, Sport and Health Sciences, based within the Faculty of Science and Health, are looking to recruit a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Applied Sport Psychology. The successful candidate will engage in education, research, and innovation activities within the school, and align with the Culture, Behaviour, Inclusivity and Governance school-wide thematic area of expertise. We would welcome applications from individuals who have a strong background and contemporary knowledge of theory, research, and applied practice in sport and performance psychology.

To strategically grow this research discipline, we would be particularly interested in applications from individuals with expertise that complements our existing areas of: (i) stress, resilience, and thriving; (ii) cultural and organisational sport psychology; and (iii) professional training and practice of sport psychology practitioners, although applicants with other research expertise will still be considered.

The school currently offers a range of taught courses including a well-established Sport Psychology pathway from Level 4 to 8: BSc (Hons) Psychology of Sport and Performance; MSc Applied Sport Psychology; and Professional Doctorate in Sport and Exercise Psychology. We also have a thriving Sport and Exercise Science course including Dual Degrees with Edith Cowan University, Australia and Brock University, Canada. In addition to a variety of research degrees (MRes, MPhil, PhD) and campus-based courses, the school has a suite of partnership courses with: Premier League; The Professional Footballers Association; Institute of Optimal Nutrition; and International Management and Sports College, Singapore.

The successful candidate will fulfil the duties of an academic, dividing their time across teaching, research and service. Key elements of the role include:

  • Participate in teaching, scholarship, research / innovation in accordance with the School and Faculty objectives.
  • Develop and deliver a research and innovation plan aligned with the School’s strategic priorities, with a demonstrable trajectory towards producing REF-returnable outputs, generating impact, and securing external research funding.
  • Work with colleagues and act as a team member to contribute to the delivery and design of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes responding to students’ needs as a member of a teaching team.
  • Actively seek to enhance the student experience and student employability and enterprise opportunities.
  • Support the school in its marketing, outreach and widening participation activities.

Candidates should hold, be eligible for, or demonstrate a clear commitment to working towards registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist to support delivery and supervision on our postgraduate courses.
