Overview

The Retail Operations department generates income for the Bodleian Libraries through its two on-site shops and online store, offering merchandise inspired by the Library's collections.

You will join a friendly and ambitious team during a period of growth, helping to deliver an outstanding retail experience for visitors.

This is a permanent part-time role, working 14 hours per week, with weekends on a rota and occasional evenings and Bank Holidays as required.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Shop Manager in the day-to-day operation of both the Weston Library and Old Quad shops.
  • Maximise sales through excellent customer service, effective stock presentation, and strong operational standards.
  • deputise for the Shop Manager when required and supervise Retail Assistants during weekend shifts.
  • Coordinate stock replenishment and transfers; assist with e-commerce order fulfilment.
  • Support monthly stock counts and operate tills and EPOS systems.
  • Ensure the shops remain welcoming, well-presented and fully stocked.
  • Contribute to special events and work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain smooth retail operations.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Previous experience in a customer-facing retail environment with a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Confidence handling cash, using electronic tills and stock management systems.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
  • Effective communication with customers and colleagues; able to work independently and as part of a team; takes personal responsibility for high standards.
  • Organised, dependable and motivated, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience supervising colleagues and visual merchandising is desirable; interest in the Bodleian Libraries' retail product range is advantageous.
