About the role
The Blavatnik School of Government is seeking to recruit a Teaching Associate to join the teaching team for the Law and Public Policy compulsory module within the Master in Public Policy (MPP). Law provides a framework within which public policy is developed, shaped and implemented. In the Law and Public Policy module, students will explore the key ideas which underpin how legal systems work, and how law both constrains and can be used as a tool in the policy process. We will focus on foundational concepts that are common to most, if not all, legal systems, including the international legal system. The course will cover the role of international law in accountability of governments and the regulation of transnational challenges.
As a Teaching Associate, you will be expected to:
- Serve as a Seminar Leader.
- Take a lead role with respect to organisation of seminars.
- Contribute to assessment.
- Assist the module convenors with administration.
- There may also be opportunities to undertake a small amount of lecturing.
While primary teaching on the Law and Public module occurs in Hilary term, other duties may be spread out over the full academic year. This post is fixed-term for one year and on a variable hours basis.
About you
You should hold a relevant Master’s degree in law, with some study of public international law at postgraduate level, and sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge in law to develop module materials. Excellent communication and organisational skills, experience and excellence in teaching and leading seminars, and the ability to teach to non-specialists are also essential.
