Life and Mind Building, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3EL and current departmental sites in and around the Science Area and Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Oxford.
The Oxford EARTH Initiative (\"Ensuring equitable Access to sustainable Resources for a Thriving Habitat\"; OxEARTH) was launched in 2025, dedicated to tackling the critical challenges of sustainable natural resource management. A central theme to OxEARTH is how to understand and mitigate the ecological and other environmental impacts involved in resourcing the transition to Net Zero; which is already driving unprecedented demand for the critical raw materials required for the generation, storage, and transmission of renewable energy. OxEARTH\'s Strategic Research Fund (SRF) award supports the creation of four faculty posts, including one in Biology proposed in response to SRF Board feedback recognizing the impacts of mining on biodiversity.
The role requires someone with an interdisciplinary mixture of expertise bringing together biodiversity and conservation science, ecology, environmental economics, impact assessment, and nature finance.
These Senior Research Fellow posts will be for five years in the first instance. The principal criterion is excellence in research, although potential to contribute to teaching, as well as to the wider aims of the Department will be welcome.
The successful candidate will be located in the new £200M Life and Mind Building (LaMB) that is fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
