An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Grants Officer to join the Grant Management Team within the Nuffield Department of Medicine (NDM), one of the largest and most research-intensive medical departments at the University of Oxford. This maternity cover post offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced research administration professional to contribute to the delivery of high-quality grant management support across a diverse and complex research portfolio. Secondment opportunities for internal applicants will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with academics, Professional Services colleagues, Research teams, external collaborators and funders.
  • Supporting both pre-award and post-award grant activities.
  • Preparing and costing grant applications, ensuring compliance with funder requirements.
  • Overseeing project finances, monitoring expenditure, supporting audits and reporting processes.
  • Providing expert advice to grant holders and research teams.

The role requires someone who can manage competing priorities, build strong working relationships, and confidently support the operational and financial management of complex research projects.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or possess equivalent professional experience, with knowledge of grants and/or contracts administration, ideally within higher education or a research environment.
  • Experience of financial administration, excellent organisational and analytical skills, and the ability to interpret and apply financial policies accurately.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, alongside confidence working independently and collaboratively within a busy team environment.
  • Experience using grant costing tools and financial systems such as Oracle or X5 would be advantageous.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract until 31 December 2027 and is funded by the Department.
