Overview

You will be responsible for developing and /or maintaining new research-related policies or related guidance for different service areas, keeping oversight of the existing portfolio of research-related policies, and for convening two key committees in research, the Research Portfolio Committee and the Research Practice Subcommittee. You will also handle concerns about research conduct, working in coordination with People Department and the Registrar\’s office. You will show genuine engagement with all areas of responsibility and commitment to research policy, proactively shape own role and delivery of duties, and enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues from across RSPU, Research Services, and the organisation.

You will have considerable and up-to-date understanding of and interest in research integrity and ethics together with a good understanding of other core areas of good practice in research. You will have proven experience of dealing with complex, sensitive issues and cases related to the responsible conduct of research, combined with a good grasp of academic research and challenges for individuals. You will demonstrate an ability to plan, consult, and develop policies, and experience in convening committee meetings, developing briefings, producing minutes and supporting senior leaders. You must possess excellent communication, persuasion and presentation skills, as well as an analytical mind and an ability to think laterally, to engage effectively with academic and professional services colleagues at all levels of seniority. Knowledge of the broad policy, governance and regulatory framework for research in the UK university sector would be advantageous.

It has a broad remit to support the University\’s researchers by providing expertise, strategic insight, research funding acquisition, contract negotiation, and innovation and engagement initiatives. The post is based within the Research Strategy and Policy Unit (RSPU) which provides support for institutional research strategy and policy, including research strategy development and coordination, research evaluation and insight, research information, support for the University\’s main research-related committees, management of strategic internal funding and the development and coordination of institution-wide research policies.
