Overview

Project Manager – Assurance and Finance at University of Oxford. This role supports the Africa Pandemic Sciences Collaborative, a high-profile initiative delivered in partnership with Science for Africa (SFA) Foundation, based in Nairobi, and Mastercard Foundation. The Pandemic Sciences Institute (PSI) within the Nuffield Department of Medicine (NDM) leads this work, with a focus on research excellence and equitable global partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as PSI’s primary assurance and finance specialist for the Africa Pandemic Sciences Collaborative.
  • Manage and support the budget of up to $80 million, including reviewing overseas expenditure and coordinating annual re-budgeting processes.
  • Prepare financial reports and maintain detailed trackers and documentation.
  • Support risk management and ensure effective communication across diverse programme stakeholders.
  • Provide analysis and interpretation of complex financial data; present information clearly to senior stakeholders and committees.
  • Travel internationally as required to support programme activities.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong project management and stakeholder engagement experience within complex international programmes, with a solid grasp of financial systems and processes.
  • Proficiency in Excel and the ability to prepare, monitor and forecast large, activity-based budgets.
  • Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and the confidence to present complex information to senior audiences.
  • Ability to influence, challenge and guide decisions in a collaborative way; good problem-solving skills and an interest in global health and/or international development.
  • Degree in a relevant subject; experience in resource-constrained settings and/or complex international partnerships is essential.
  • Experience in higher education or research settings and a professional finance or assurance qualification (completed or in progress) is advantageous.

Contract and Funding

This position is offered full time on a fixed-term contract for 3 years and is funded by the Mastercard Foundation.
