Overview

Postdoctoral Research Assistant (Postdoctoral) for the LZ Experiment at University of Oxford, Oxford, ENG, GB. Full‑time on‑site position, with a fixed‑term duration until December2027, subject to funding extension.

The LZ experiment is a world‑leading dark matter search using a liquid xenon time‑projection chamber. The successful candidate will analyse data from the LZ experiment and work on the design of the XLZD field‑cage.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse data from the LZ experiment, including WIMP dark matter searches, effective field theory searches, neutrinoless double‑beta‑decay and double‑electron‑capture searches, B8 solar neutrino signals from coherent neutrino‑nuclear scattering, and low‑threshold ionisation analyses.
  • Focus on simulations and signal models, dataset curation and statistical package development.
  • Contribute to LZ operations and performance optimisation.
  • Design, evaluate, and determine cost and schedule of construction of the XLZD field‑cage, adapting existing and developing new scientific techniques.
  • Collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles, present papers and posters, and represent the research group at external meetings and seminars (independently or with group members).
  • Manage own academic research and administrative activities, carrying out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate (DPhil or PhD) in experimental particle physics or related field, or close to completion.
  • Strong background in data analysis and hardware; experience with dark‑matter or other rare‑event experiments is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, plan and execute research activities, and work in a team.
  • Teaching duties up to three hours per week during university term time may be required.
