A Language Lecturer in Sanskrit will be appointed for two years to provide teaching in Sanskrit language and Sanskrit texts to both undergraduate and graduate students. This role will contribute to the design and development of teaching and elements of courses, as well as undertaking administration and examining where required. The Lecturer will join the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, where they will be a member of the Inner and South Asian Studies Subject Group.
This position is based in central Oxford. This is a full-time, fixed-term position commencing on 1st September 2026 or as soon as possible after that. The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 3 March 2026.
Responsibilities:- Provide teaching in Sanskrit language and Sanskrit texts to undergraduate and graduate students.
- Contribute to the design and development of teaching and course elements.
- Undertake administration and examining where required.
- Collaborate within the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and the Inner and South Asian Studies Subject Group.
- High-level command of Sanskrit; native or equivalent command of English.
- First degree (or relevant higher degree) in Sanskrit language, language pedagogy, or applied linguistics.
- Experience teaching Sanskrit in a university setting; excellent communication and workload management skills; commitment to dynamic and effective language teaching.
