About the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join the MRC Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE) in the Department of Paediatrics as a Full Stack Software Developer. You will play an important role in data coordination and analysis within the CoRE. You will also be responsible for developing secure, scalable full‑stack web applications and computational tools that coordinate, analyse, visualise and share large‑scale genomic data to support the design of genetic medicines for rare genetic disorders. You will be working in the Department of Paediatrics within the University of Oxford’s Medical Sciences Division. The Department of Paediatrics is a world leader in child health research and hosts internationally renowned research programmes in neuromuscular diseases and vaccinology. The post-holder will work primarily within the teams of Dr. Nicola Whiffin (based at the Big Data Institute) and Dr. Stephan Sanders (Institute of Developmental & Regenerative Medicine) at the University of Oxford. This position is offered full‑time on a fixed‑term contract for an initial period of three years. Part‑time applications may be considered (minimum 0.8‑FTE).

About you

You will have a relevant degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or Software Engineering, or equivalent substantial professional experience as a software developer. You will have demonstrable technical skills, including full‑stack web development using Python and JavaScript frameworks, with expertise in RESTful APIs, cloud deployment and DevOps (CI/CD, IaC), web security, version control, and handling and visualising large‑scale genomic datasets. You will have highly effective verbal and written communication skills with all levels of staff and an ability to operate effectively in a demanding research environment.

Benefits

£39,424 to £47,779 with a discretionary range to £51,983 per annum. The Department of Paediatrics offers an Interview Expense Reimbursement Policy in its efforts towards equality, diversity and inclusion.
