Balliol College seeks to employ temporary Scouts to join our friendly and busy housekeeping team. This role is to cover the busy summer conference period. The successful candidates will carry out a variety of cleaning tasks around the College. Our team of Housekeeping Scouts are responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the College – they are observant, thorough, have good time management, and are able to multitask.

Working 25 hours per week, any five days out of seven, during the summer vacation. Working mainly mornings, Monday to Friday, with some weekend work expected. Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but training will be provided. Posts are available from mid‑June to early October 2026, though some flexibility is possible for the right candidates.

Cleaning and associated tasks as directed.

Responsible to

The Head Housekeeper.

Responsibilities

  • Daily cleaning of offices, teaching rooms and communal areas as directed
  • Daily disposal of waste and recycling
  • Daily cleaning of communal areas and facilities
  • Deep-cleaning of all areas at the end of term in preparation for conference guests
  • Daily servicing of rooms during conference periods, including bedroom set up
  • Ensuring that equipment and materials are used responsibly and in compliance with College risk assessments and COSHH regulations
