We are seeking a reliable and organised Laboratory Support Technician to join our busy department. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with previous laboratory experience who enjoys working in a varied, hands‑on role supporting laboratory operations, facilities management, and departmental services.
Working closely with the Senior Laboratory Technician and Laboratory & Facilities Manager, you will help ensure laboratories and communal spaces operate efficiently, safely, and in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Health & Safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Work in accordance with Health & Safety regulations, departmental procedures, and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), maintaining safe working practices and using appropriate PPE at all times.
- Operate autoclaves, laboratory glass washers, and drying ovens under supervision, processing laboratory glassware, media bottles, Duran bottles, and other laboratory equipment.
- Maintain stocks of laboratory consumables, gas cylinders, and supplies, ensuring materials are appropriately stored and replenishment requirements are reported.
- Support laboratory waste and recycling management, ensuring waste is correctly segregated and prepared for disposal.
- Carry out routine laundry collections and returns, maintaining accurate records where required.
- Receive, unpack, and distribute deliveries, laboratory supplies, and departmental post across multiple locations.
- Conduct routine inspections of laboratories and facilities, reporting maintenance issues, equipment faults, and health and safety concerns.
- Assist with the preparation and set‑up of meeting rooms, teaching spaces, and seminars, including basic audiovisual support.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of offices, kitchens, meeting rooms, and communal areas.
- Assist with the safe movement of laboratory equipment, furniture, and departmental resources.
- Provide a professional and customer-focused service to staff, students, visitors, contractors, and suppliers.
Qualifications
- Previous laboratory experience in an academic, research, industrial, healthcare, or similar laboratory environment.
- Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
- Experience operating laboratory support equipment such as autoclaves, glass washers, or drying ovens.
- Experience working within a regulated laboratory environment.
