About the role

In this role, you'll lead the design and delivery of data management strategies across a complex research project, ensuring robust processes for data collection, analysis, governance and compliance. This role requires significant experience in research data management, alongside the ability to advise stakeholders, uphold GDPR and ethical standards, and support teams across multiple sites.

Duties

  • Design data management plans for the project, selecting and implementing appropriate methods for evaluating research activities, analysing the results to inform future strategy.
  • Review and advise on the project's research methods in order to comply with collaborator, Oxford University, and Wellcome Trust guidelines on data protection and ethics requirements.
  • Provide leadership and expertise in data management, including providing advice and training to fieldworkers, data collection and data entry staff, in collaboration with local site leads.
  • Review and update standard data collection and management procedures for the project, including SOPs for data collection teams (data collection, transfer, storage).
  • Review data governance and processes and ensure all data and related activities comply with GDPR and/or other relevant requirements.

Selection Criteria

  • Degree or higher qualification in a related discipline.
  • Extensive data management experience across one or more academically pertinent disciplines (qualitative data from interviews; quantitative datasets generated from surveys; ethnographic data; doctrinal data and data generated from cultural studies).
  • Demonstrable experience developing and implementing project-wide data management strategy.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and the ability to inspire the confidence of field workers and senior colleagues alike.
  • Ability to work independently, problem-solve, manage multiple projects, and exercise good judgement in an organised and professional manner.
  • A commitment to ensuring data protection compliance and ethics requirements across a range of environments and to a range of stakeholders.
