Finance Division
An exciting opportunity to join the University of Oxford’s Finance Division as an Assistant Accountant. In this Divisional role, you’ll provide dedicated financial support across a range of departments across UAS and GLAM while developing your expertise. The University will fully support you in pursuing a professional accountancy qualification, making this an excellent step for anyone looking to build a career in finance.
Location: Great Clarendon Street, Oxford and other locations within the Divisions with the option of some hybrid/remote working
Salary: £35,681 – £41,636 per annum

About the Role
- Support the Divisional Finance Manager with management accounting, forecasting, and financial reporting for UAS and GLAM.
- Prepare reports, forecasts, and accounts for senior management and external funders, ensuring compliance with University Financial Regulations.
- Lead on selected year-end processes, payroll submissions, and purchase-to-pay/receivables support.
- Provide financial analysis, resolve discrepancies, and promote best practice across departments.
- Contribute to projects, cross-departmental activities, and continuous improvements within the Finance Division.
About You
- Experience of working in a complex financial administration function.
- Evidence of high numeracy and the ability to grasp financial concepts.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency and competent use of IT including use of advanced Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, email and internet and willingness to learn to use unfamiliar software and systems quickly.
- Ability to work as part of a team, backed up with good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work to deadlines, and evidence of the ability to manage a full workload and prioritise own tasks.
- Evidence of problem-solving skills.
- Experience of using an enterprise integrated financial management system.
- Commitment to pursuing an accountancy qualification such as CIMA/ACA/ACCA.
Desirable selection criteria
- Experience in the museum or charities sector would be an advantage.
- Oracle Financials experience would be an advantage.
- AAT Qualified (or equivalent)
