The Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS) is part of the Medical Sciences Division and is the largest European academic department in its field, running a globally competitive programme of research and teaching. The Botnar Research Centre enables and encourages research and education into the causes of musculoskeletal disease and their treatment. The Centre provides world-class facilities for scientists in the field of musculoskeletal research.
The Senior Clinical Research Fellow role is a new multifaceted position with three components:
- to deliver and lead early and later phase clinical trials of innovative curative, practice changing trials for haematology patients;
- to lead research into novel immune-oncology therapies;
- to deliver specialist liaison advisory service for haematology patients.

The post holder will work closely with the Haematology Trial Unit (HTU) and the clinical service based at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As part of this post, the Senior Clinical Research Fellow will develop their own research into novel immune-oncology therapies, focusing on therapies that target tumour cells sparing normal cells. The post holder will actively apply for grants to support the department’s research goals, will prepare and present findings of research activity to colleagues for review purposes.
You will hold a PhD/MD with a focus on clinical translational research and have experience of clinical haematology and working on clinical trials which are GCP-compliant, and of the process of obtaining and maintaining regulatory and ethics approvals. Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview) and membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and/or Royal College of Pathologists or evidence of an equivalent qualification, are essential. A track record of grants awarded in the field of haematological malignancy and experience of working with industry are desirable.
