We are seeking a dedicated and self‑motivated Smoking Cessation Practitioner (SCP) to support the delivery of high‑quality smoking cessation services for participants in the YorQuit study, a multi‑centre randomised controlled trial funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research. The study tests the effectiveness and acceptability of various approaches to smoking cessation among patients attending community‑based lung health checks in Bradford, Hull, Manchester and Leeds, led by Professor Rachael Murray (University of Nottingham) and Professor Matthew Callister (Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust).
Responsibilities:
- Assess participants’ readiness to quit smoking and develop personalised quit plans.
- Provide up to 12 weeks of support through telephone or video consultations.
- Deliver evidence‑based cessation support according to the study protocol and NCSCT guidelines.
- Prepare reports and documentation required by the research team.
- Attend regular in‑person team meetings in Nottingham and travel to Nottingham at least once per month.
Qualifications:
- Completed NCSCT Stop Smoking Practitioner Training and relevant experience OR broad vocational experience in a relevant health or counselling field with understanding of behavioural change theories and models.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build rapport quickly.
- Capacity to provide individually tailored support based on a smoker’s needs and household circumstances.
- Basic disclosure obtained from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required.
