An exciting opportunity has arisen within the School of Life Sciences to join our team as a Sport and Exercise Science Teaching Technician. The role supports the organisation, preparation and delivery of undergraduate laboratory practical classes, assists with final-year research projects and provides technical skills in the disciplines of Exercise Physiology, Metabolism and Nutrition for the BSc Sport & Exercise Science programme. The post is based between the David Ross Sports Village (University Park Campus) and the Medical School (Queen’s Medical Centre). The appointee will provide technical and administrative support to enable academic staff and students to participate in laboratory practical classes and undertake research projects in a safe and effective manner, following Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and health and safety guidelines. Appropriate continued professional development and training will be available, some of which will be mandatory and must be successfully completed.

Responsibilities

  • Support the organisation, preparation and delivery of undergraduate laboratory practical classes.
  • Assist with final-year research projects and provide technical skills in Exercise Physiology, Metabolism and Nutrition for the BSc Sport & Exercise Science programme.
  • Provide technical and administrative support to enable activities in a safe and effective manner, following Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and health and safety guidelines.
  • Support ongoing professional development and training as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of HNC in a relevant subject or equivalent qualifications plus work experience in human physiology, metabolism or nutrition. A first degree in Sport and Exercise Science, Physiology, Biomedical Science or a similar discipline is desirable.
  • Experience working in a teaching laboratory environment with relevant techniques and equipment in human metabolism, physiology or nutrition.
  • Strong customer relation skills and the ability to work accurately under pressure.
  • Ability to learn new techniques quickly; experience assisting human volunteer teaching activities or human volunteer research studies is desirable.
  • Ability to lift and move objects and to store and move consumables and equipment.

This is a permanent, full-time role (36.25 hours per week). Salary £29,740 to £36,446 per annum pro-rata depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance. Closing date: Saturday 14 February 2026. Reference: MED503326.
