The Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre, University of Nottingham, UK is seeking applications for the position of Research Associate/Fellow - OPM MEG Technology to support newly funded projects centred on the development and application of wearable Magnetoencephalography (MEG) using Optically Pumped Magnetometers (OPMs).
The successful applicant will join established teams of world leading researchers working on the development of the cutting-edge OPM-MEG technology. Specifically, we will design, build and test arrays of optically pumped magnetometers (and associated technology) that measure human electrophysiology, with sensitivity and spatial resolution rivalling invasive metrics (i.e. electrodes placed in the brain). Testing of the new high-density device will be in both healthy control participants and patients with epilepsy. In epilepsy, we aim to use these new arrays to significantly enhance sensitivity for diagnosis, and to enable high precision mapping of epileptogenic cortex – a key enabler for surgical treatments.
The role will primarily involve construction and evaluation of hardware, data collection, data analysis and writing scientific papers/reports. In addition, there will be active opportunities for collaboration internationally. The role holder will also be expected to co-supervise both postgraduate and undergraduate students.
Post details: The post is available from 1 July 2026 and is offered on a full time (36.25 hours per week) fixed-term contract until 30/06/2028.
