The Biodiscovery Institute (BDI) is a collaborative post-graduate research facility with academics from across six Schools at the University of Nottingham. The BDI comprises 3 buildings and contains a series of laboratories and office spaces supporting 850+ staff and students.

Key Responsibilities

This crucial role within the institute is based within a dedicated core support team and provides day-to-day support in the operation of a busy research institution. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing and sterilising laboratory reagents and media
  • Washing and sterilising glassware
  • Collecting and disposing of biological waste using an autoclave
  • Conducting safety checks on equipment
  • Collecting and delivering chemicals and waste
  • Handling consumable deliveries
  • Stock checking and restocking supplies
  • Working in goods in by taking and recording deliveries

The role will also provide key technical support to the Senior Building Technician, may involve workload planning and responsibility for specific technical duties.

Requirements

We have a team-oriented approach and candidates should have excellent interpersonal, organisational, written, and verbal communication skills, and good attention to detail. The role involves manual handling. Candidates should have GCSEs at Grade C or equivalent, or considerable work experience in a relevant role. Experience in a lab setting is desirable, but full training will be given.

Contract Details

This is a part-time post (18.5 hours per week) and is on a fixed-term contract for 18 months.
