About the role

Do you love sport and want to work in a role that allows you to do something that you are passionate about every day? Would you like to be part of our ambitious future, working within sector‑leading sports facilities providing health, wellbeing, and exercise opportunities for our university communities, including international and elite athletes? If so, we would love you to join our team of Sports Assistants and Lifeguards based at the David Ross Sports Village on our Nottingham campus.

In this role, we will support you to develop your skills and gain industry‑recognised qualifications to further your career in sport. We will provide fully funded training in your first six months with us to ensure you achieve the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), and our team of Professional Development experts will work with you to find the appropriate course, funding, or programme to help you fulfil your potential.

Key responsibilities

A team player, you will bring a passion for customer care and a desire to deliver excellent service. Working on a rota basis, you will ensure the highest standards of facility operation, set‑up and delivery of activities and large events, and provide safe supervision of customers and lifeguard cover of our 25‑meter indoor swimming pool.

Candidates will need to be flexible in their approach to their working week, noting that evening, weekend, and work over public holidays will be required. Core hours for the David Ross Sports Village are 6:00 am to 11:00 pm.

Additional information

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, a generous holiday allowance of 26 days plus 13 public holidays, pension scheme and access to leisure and childcare facilities across our campuses. This position is a permanent, full‑time role (36.25 hours per week). Note: Interviews for the roles will include a practical swim competency test within the swimming pool.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to cameron.offer@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note, applications sent directly to this email will not be accepted.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Our university is a supportive, inclusive, caring and positive community. We welcome people of different cultures, ethnicities and beliefs – indeed this diversity is vital to our success, it is fundamental to our values and enriches life on campus. We are a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) and we are proud to have achieved the Athena Swan Gold Award. To help you succeed, we published Candidate Guidance to provide support on the application and interview process. We welcome applications from the UK, Europe and worldwide and aim to make your move to the UK as smooth as possible. This position does not fulfil the UK Visas & Immigration sponsorship criteria for Skilled Worker, so we can only accept applications from candidates who already have the right to work in the UK.
