The Corporate Finance team seeks a full time (36.25 hours) Assistant Financial Accountant for an 18-month fixed term contract. You will provide day-to-day support to the financial accountants and the Head of Corporate Finance, at an operational and project level. You will develop your technical accounting knowledge as we complete financial statements and other regulatory returns, and your business partnering experience will deliver financial results to internal customers, focusing on the group level results.
What you will be doing
You will be a key part of our group reporting processes. When you join, you will help us finalise our financial statements and be a key point of contact for external auditors. Meanwhile, you will be focusing on delivering monthly group level financial results.
You will coordinate the Office for Students (OfS) return, compiling information requests to other colleagues and departments. Draft and check this and other regulatory returns during the year for review by the Head of Finance.
Along the way you will be a key contributor to a range of process improvement and team development projects.

- At the same time, when deadlines clash, you can step back to focus on critical processes.
- Previously you have prepared management reports, financial plans, and budgets.
- You can confidently prepare external financial reports (like audit submissions) and you know how to reconcile them back to source data.
- Either you have significant relevant experience, or you are a qualified accountant.

We are the Corporate Finance team, a small team that sits within a much larger Financial Control and Financial Management team. We are a busy, diverse and vibrant team, looking after month-end and year-end processes, financial reporting, audit and regulatory returns, cash and treasury management and the setup of the university\’s finance systems.
