Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams, you will support the Principal Investigator and wider team in delivery of research activity on a project focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in Heart and Lung Transplantation. You will lead and support innovative research applying AI and ML techniques to analyze complex datasets from cardiothoracic patients. The role involves data mining, preprocessing, model development, validation, and interpretation of multimodal clinical data, including imaging, physiological signals, and electronic health records. You will collaborate with clinicians, data scientists, and multidisciplinary teams to identify clinically meaningful patterns, develop predictive models, and translate findings into improved patient outcomes.

Responsibilities include ensuring data governance compliance, publishing results, and supporting the development of scalable, ethical, and reproducible AI-driven healthcare solutions. The role is fixed term, starting on 20th April 2026 for a duration of 11 months. This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 therefore the successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Applicants should hold a PhD and have demonstrable specialist expert knowledge in artificial intelligence (including computer vision), machine learning, data science and be experienced to demonstrate original thinking - turning research ideas into meaningful actions resulting in academic outputs.
