An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Financial Guidance Team as a Financial Guidance Coordinator. You will work alongside the other Financial Guidance Coordinators in the assessment and allocation of university support funds. This includes the creation of letters as well as maintaining accurate records through the use of spreadsheets. The post holder will also support the team in offering information, support and guidance to applicants and current students in relation to the types and levels of student funding available. They will develop and maintain an understanding of student finance and funding in order to provide timely and accurate information to students and staff in a busy and varied post. This includes supporting the team with promotional events and University Open/Discovery days during the year. It is important that the post holder is available to work on Wednesday mornings 9 am – 12 pm to contribute to regular team meetings and coordinator meetings.

The post involves providing information and guidance to applicants and students, so you will either already have or be expected to develop an understanding of the HE sector, in particular a knowledge of student finance and the statutory support available. You will need to be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey complex information during student appointments, phone calls and emails and also when representing the team during University Open day events and other team activities. You will need to demonstrate exceptional organisational skills and be able to effectively manage competing work priorities. You will also need to show an ability to deal with complex, challenging or difficult situations in a sensitive manner. You will be able to work well independently as well as collaboratively as part of the team.

Essential Qualification

Educated to A-Level (or equivalent) and/or equivalent experience (e.g. experience in advice, guidance or counselling).

Department Library, Learning and Student Services (LLSS) consists of the University Library and Archives Learning Technology, Learning and Teaching Enhancement and Student Services. The University Library provides adaptable and IT rich learning environments, with access to print and online resources, alongside expert support in finding information. Learning and Teaching Enhancement provides flexible opportunities for students to develop a broad range of academic skills, while Learning Technology manage NILE, the University's virtual learning environment, and support the use of technology in learning and teaching. Student Services include disability support, counselling and mental health, student advice and welfare, international student support, the Student Information Desk and financial guidance.
